The following information addresses central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) in general.
FLEXBUMIN® [Albumin (Human)] has not been evaluated in clinical studies for CLABSI risk reduction.

*Study was conducted from January 2016 to December 2022 at 45 hospitals affiliated with the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON). Study used per-HAI-case additional cost-point estimates scaled to the 2021 US dollar. These estimates represent the incremental cost to the hospital of the inpatient stay that is attributable to the HAI of interest.2
CLOSED INFUSION SYSTEM MAY REDUCE RISK OF CLABSI3
According to the Joint Commission, use of closed infusion systems that lower risk for contamination during initial setup and administration may help to further reduce the risk for CLABSI. The Joint Commission has defined open and closed systems as follows:

CLOSED INFUSION SYSTEMS
IV fluid containers that require no external venting for the bag to empty are closed infusion systems.

OPEN INFUSION SYSTEMS
Glass bottles, semi-rigid plastic bottles, and burettes that must be vented to allow air to enter for the fluid to egress are open infusion systems.
